Capt. Benjamin Franklin Pierce

Capt. Benjamin Franklin Pierce

If you are over 40 you may get the name of this image. If not, Capt. Benjamin Franklin Pierce was the full name of surgeon “Hawkeye” Pierce in the long running TV show ***MASH***.

This Red Tail Hawk is actually totally blind and a resident of Smoky Mountain Raptor Center in Townsend Tennessee. Her real name is Zena.

Note the detail of her feathers, the specks in her eye and even the rabbit hair on her beak. The image was shot with a 600mm lens from about eight feet away.

Sandhill Crane

Sandhill Crane

Each spring one million Sandhill Cranes gather on the Platte River in south central Nebraska for about six weeks of feasting and mating. In 2020 I was privileged to get to photograph one of the greatest migrations on earth.

Show Me Your . . . .

Show Me Your . . . .

The Blue Footed Bobbie’s of the Galapagos Islands are a beautiful and intriguing birds. As most wildlife in the islands, they are completely unafraid of humans and put on a show at your feet and in the air.

Oh Deer!!

Oh Deer!!

This lovely little Mule Deer was very curious about my camera. It is a wild deer far too accustomed to people in the neighborhood near Estes Park, Colorado

Harold

Harold

Snorkeling off the coast of the Galapagos Islands this sea turtle gave me a thrill as we swam side by side for about 100 yards. The light reflected through the waves creates an interesting pattern on the already interesting quilted shell.

As we swam, for whatever reason, I named him Harold.

You Can Call Me Sally

You Can Call Me Sally

How much time can a grown man spend chasing a bunch of crabs with a camera? A lot if you are in the Galapagos Islands.

Sally Lightfoot Crabs scurry around on the rocks somewhat accustomed to humans in some areas. Their rich colors make them hard to resist.

Sleeping Bruin

Sleeping Bruin

This is Hazel. She came out of hibernation on a warm day in early January to dig some grubs form atop this broken off tree. Dazed from hibernation and the warm weather she just could not stay awake.

Hazel gave birth to four cubs just a couple of months later.

Two for Dinner

Two for Dinner

American Oyster Catches hunt in a tide pool in the Galapagos Islands oblivious to a half dozen cameras focused on them. The symmetry of the duo makes this colorful image all the more beautiful.
